O047 An online sleep education workshop for trainee psychologists improves sleep knowledge, skills, and confidence to treat insomnia: A waitlist comparison study

Abstract Introduction Despite the clear influence of poor sleep on mental health, nearly half trainee psychologists receive no education. This limits their ability to manage common disorders, such as insomnia, that adversely impact health. study examined effectiveness an online education workshop for improving psychologists’ knowledge and skills confidence deliver evidence-based interventions insomnia. Methods Trainee enrolled in a six-hour (n=186, M age=32, 80% female) or waitlist comparison group (n=70, 81% offered at university part postgraduate coursework voluntary workshop. Sleep assessments were completed pre-and post-intervention (2-4 weeks) long-term follow-up (12 months). Results Workshop attendees demonstrated significant improvements (pre: 55% vs. post: correct) relative 52% 51% correct; p<.001). Post-intervention, reported increased treating insomnia using approach compared (p<.001). At 12 months post-intervention, 92% trainees utilizing learned clinical practice. Discussion Psychologists are front-line health service providers, yet is missing from psychology curriculum.
